What are the four C’s?

The four C’s consist of Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Each of these aspects of a diamond can greatly impact a diamonds value and appearance. Below are the different scales in which diamonds are graded on, the better the quality the higher the cost associated with the diamond.

Color

The color evaluation of most gym-quality diamonds is based on the absence of color. The color grading system measures the degree of colorlessness by comparing a stone, under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions, to master stones of established color value.

Many diamond color distinctions are so subtle they are invisible to the untrained eye; however, these distractions make a very big difference in quality and price.

Clarity

Diamond clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and blemish within the stone. Evaluating diamond clarity involves determine the number, size, relief, nature, and position of these characteristics, as well as how these affect the overall appearance of the stone.

Remember.. No diamond is perfectly pure. But the closer it comes to purity, the better its clarity.

Cut

Diamonds are renowned for their ability to transmit light and sparkle so intensely. We often think of a diamond’s cut as its shape (round, oval, princess), but what diamond cut actually means is how well it’s facets interact with light. Achieving the best cut for a diamond reflects in the stone’s final beauty and value.

Carat Weight

Simply put, diamond carat weight measures how much a diamond weighs. A metric “carat” is defined as 200 milligrams, and each carat is subdivided into 100 “points”. This allows very precise measurements to the hundredth decimal place.

All else belong equal, diamond price increases with diamond carat weight because larger diamonds are rare and more desirable.

10K, 14K, 18K, 24K Gold: What’s the Difference?

Gold purity is categorized using the karat system. The ration of our gold to other alloys use is categorized as 10K, 14K, 18K, etc.

Each karat level of gold has different purity levels. Pure gold, 24K, is 100% pure. Whereas 14K, the most popular, is 58.3% pure. The more pure the gold, the softer the piece (more likely to be scratched or damaged).

14K gold is typically the go-to option in the jewelry industry. It is a great mix of affordability, purity, and durability.
